About Walt Giessel, 45, of Cimarron, died Nov. 1, 1996, at Columbia Western Plains Hospital, Dodge City. Born June 8, 1951, at Larned, he was the son of Alfred Austin and Edith Mae (Knoeber) Giessel. A farmer and welder, he was raised on a farm east of Spearville. He graduated from Spearville High School in 1969. On May 18, 1976, he married Charmaine Nash at Ingalls. He was engaged in farming north of Howell, was in the maintenance department at Excel Corporation in Dodge City, and was a self-employed welder. He was preceded in death by his father, in 1983. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Council #2955 of the Knights of Columbus, both of Dodge City. Survivors include: a son, Wako Giessel, Holcomb and Cimarron; a daughter, Bobbie Giessel, Holcomb and Cimarron; mother, Edith Mae Giessel, Spearville; five brothers, Bruce and George, both of Dodge City, Paul and John, both of Spearville, and Sam, Valley Center; and five sisters, Rosemary Perkins, Denver, Colo., Trina Giessel, Spearville, Jeanne Huslig, Kinsley, Trudy Hobbs, Dodge City, and Geralyn Chronister, Hutchinson.
The funeral was Monday, Nov. 4, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Spearville, with Father Gerald Hammeke presiding. Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery, Spearville.
Memorials are suggested to the children’s education fund or American Diabetes Assn., in care of Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Walt was the second of our classmates to go, preceded by Ronald Salyer and followed by Mary Klenke Hornung and David Brumbaugh.
