Events | Alta Kathleen Rice, 70, of Yakima, passed away peacefully with her husband at her side, 12 Oct 2016, in her home. Kathy was born August 19th, 1946 to Earl and Betty Frazee in Sunnyside, WA. In her youth, her family moved around and in 1964 she graduated from Stanton County Community High School in Johnson, Kansas. One week later, at the age of 17, Kathy returned to Sunnyside, WA and attended YVCC. She met her husband and the love of her life in the spring of 1966 and was married that September. For 28 years, Kathy worked at Yakima Regional Medical Center, first as a Monitor Technician and then as a Unit Secretary. Deeply involved in her faith, she and her husband co-founded, GUST (Growing-up Spiritually Together), a jr. high youth group at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in 1982 and was an active covenant member of People of Praise Christian Community in Yakima since 1987. With her love of music and a wonderful voice, Kathy sang for many Yakima weddings & anniversaries and was a long-time member of the church choir. In her final days, she stated, “I lived a good and happy life surrounded by my loving family and friends. I’m looking forward to reuniting with my daughter and parents in the presence of the Lord.” Kathy is preceded by her beloved daughter, Heather Marie Rice, in 2003 and is survived by her husband, Ronald James Rice and her two sons, Lonny James Rice of Seattle, WA and Stephen John Rice of Beijing, China. She had two grandchildren. Viewing will be held on Friday October 14, 2016 at Brookside Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, October 17, 2016 at St. Paul’s Cathedral with entombment following at Calvary Cemetery.
