Events | Bennie Ray Morgan, 68, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson City. He was born July 12, 1940, in Portales, N.M., to Hillery and China NcNew Morgan. He graduated from Johnson High School in 1959. Mr. Morgan served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965 as a Specialist 4th Class. He then worked for Shepard and Sons as a farmer for 20 years. He enjoyed being a cowboy, woodworking, dogs, horses and spending time with his family. On Sept. 19, 1965, he married Nancy Jones in Johnson City. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Donnie Morgan of Johnson City; four brothers, Tony Martin of Tucson, Ariz., Pat Martin of Las Cruces, N.M., Wayne Morgan of Silver City, N.M., and Richard Morgan of Texas; eight sisters, Mary Martin and Josie Martin, both of Tucson, Tina McCae of Monroe, La., Lucy Mancuso of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Joy Wall of Texas, Carol Self of Clovis, N.M., LaVeta Parker of Colorado, and Carmalita Acock of Jerico Springs, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an uncle; and an aunt. A memorial service was at the Veteran's Memorial at Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson City.
