Events Bruce Ashida, 60, died April 11, 2016. He was born Nov. 4, 1955, in Leoti, Kansas the son of Hideo and Amy Sasaki Ashida. A Kingman resident since 1989, previously of Ulysses, he was a former operator for KP&L. Bruce grew up in Johnson, Kansas and graduated from Stanton County High School. He then attended Seward County Community College, where he earned an Associate’s Degree in mechanics. Bruce then worked in Colorado until he moved back to Johnson in 1980 where he met his future wife Deb Dickey, who he married on July 12, 1980 in Johnson, Kansas. He took pride in keeping his vehicles meticulous. Bruce was also a drag racer in Johnson and Ulysses. In 1989, Bruce and his family were transferred to Kingman. He enjoyed cooking, watching his girls grow up and attending their school events and sports. As a family they enjoyed going to the Ashida family reunions every July. Bruce was an avid Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan. One of his highlights was a trip to the Chiefs stadium for a private tour. After his daughters married, his sons-in-law became a very important part of his life as well. He enjoyed spending time with them and mentoring them when they asked for his advice. He also enjoyed woodworking and making personalized benches for the children of family and friends. Bruce was a member of the Kingman Christian Church. Bruce is survived by his wife Deb. Other survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Sara and Matthew Augustine, and Traci and Curtis Burroughs; brother Robert; sister Betty Hansen; grandchildren Ajay Augustine and Crew Burroughs. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Bonnijean Ashida. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at the Kingman Christian Church.
