Graduation Year Class of 1988
Date of Passing May 13, 2013
About Marc Douglass Wallace, 41, passed away May 13, 2013, at his apartment in Walnut Creek, California. He was born in Topeka July 3, 1971 to Virginia Vogel Wallace and the late Douglass Stuart Wallace. Marc attended McCarter Elementary, Landon Junior High, Topeka West High and, concurrently, Washburn University. From early childhood he pursued interlocking interests in mathematics, science, and aesthetics, developing exceptional abilities in his independent as well as formal studies. During high school Marc qualified for the USA Mathematical Olympiad, spent a summer at the Goddard Space Institute, and founded the Topeka West High Chess Club. Throughout these years he was an active member of First United Methodist Church. Marc graduated from Washington University, St. Louis in 1991 with majors in French, Physics, and Mathematics. He then entered the doctoral program in applied mathematics at the University of California at Berkeley. Finding that he preferred hands-on work in IT, Marc moved on to various programming positions with Bay Area companies including QuickATM, ECHO, Amazon, and Scientific Learning. He married Shelly Cae Pracht in 1991. She survives. Marc is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Todd and Kim Wallace of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Anne Wallace of Greensboro, North Carolina; nephew and nieces Andrew Wallace, Elizabeth Wallace, and Sarah Wallace Richert; and grand-nephews Christopher and Collin Richert.
