About | Samuel E. Blenden, Jr. (40) of Topeka, Kansas passed away on Friday, November 20, 2009. Sam was born September 10, 1969 in Portsmouth, VA, the son of Samuel E. Blenden, Sr. and Beverly Matherly. He graduated from Topeka West High School in 1988, and attended Washburn University. He was employed by Sprint Nextel in Kansas City as Public Sector Account Executive. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and coached his daughters softball and basketball teams. He was an avid golfer and K.U. sports fan. Sam married Christie A. Reed on December 9, 1995 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include twin daughters, Samantha and Sydney; parents, Samuel E. and Charlotte Provo-Blenden, Ron and Beverly Matherly; brothers, Bryan (Tanya) Blenden, Geoff (Debbie) Blenden, Justin (Billie) Blenden, all of Topeka, Mark (Krista) Provo, Carlsbad, CA , Marty (Jennifer) Provo, Chandler, AZ; sister, Tina (Bill) Gannaway, Topeka; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Topeka, Kansas. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Sam will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday and visitation will be at the church from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A prayer service and Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Blenden Childrens Education Fund, c/o Capital City Bank, 3710 SW Topeka, Blvd, Topeka, KS 66609.
