Alice Louise Darr Obituary (1951 - 2023)

Graduation Year Class of 1969
Date of Birth Jun 08, 1951
Date of Passing Oct 04, 2023
About Alice Louise Darr went to be with her father, Robert P. Darr; brother, Paul Joseph Darr; and great-great nephew, Malaki Shackleford on October 4, 2023. Born on July 8, 1951.

A Louisville native and graduate of duPont Manual High School and the University of Louisville. She had only recently returned to the Louisville area. Alice was the eldest and only daughter of Marie P. & Robert Patrick Darr of Louisville. She received a B.S. in Home Economics and Dietetics in 1974 from University of Louisville. As a licensed and registered dietitian (L.D.,R.D.), she worked in hospitals in St. Louis, MO, and Jacksonville, FL, and even in the prepared food industry at Stouffer's. While working in these hospitals, she found her niche, specializing in the dietary needs of dialysis patients working in dialysis centers as a consulting dietitian.

Desiring a career change, Alice received her MBA from the University of Louisville and relocated to Atlanta, GA in 1989 to take a management position in hospital food services at what was then Georgia Baptist Hospital (WellStar Atlanta Medical). After 10 years, she left Georgia Baptist to become the Director of Nutrition Services at Kindred Healthcare, supervising dietitians at their nursing homes and rehabilitation centers in Georgia. In her capacity as head of the Greater Atlanta Dietetic Association, she was a frequent guest on CNN. Tired of traveling and management roles, Alice went back to her first love, renal dietetics, with Fresenius Medical Care, retiring from them in 2019. Like many other healthcare workers, she returned to work during the COVID-19 pandemic, relieving dietitians on maternity leave.

Alice loved food, cooking, cats, and getting together with her fellow dietitians for lunch, a night out, or a short trip somewhere in Georgia. She was a force to be reckoned with in her Clarkston, GA neighborhood, organizing the Spring and Fall "Welcome to the Neighborhood" parties. She was a key figure in the Neighborhood Watch group.

Alice is survived by her mother, Marie; brothers, James, Karl, Charles, Richard; 9 nieces and nephews; 13 great nieces and nephews; and 1 great-great nephew.
