About | Dorothy C. Wells Major (1921-2008) Dorothy C. Wells Major, 86, of South Shore, Ky., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. Dorothy was born April 24, 1921, in Fullerton, Ky., the daughter of the late Victor and Martha Virgin Wells. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Virgil Edward Major, and a daughter, Rita Ann Major Meenach. She was a retired schoolteacher who taught for 38 years in the Greenup County School District. She was a long-standing member of First Christian Church in South Shore, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a past worthy matron of Order of Eastern Star Radiance Chapter 427 of South Shore and a member of the Cloverleaf Homemakers Club. Surviving are a daughter, Marquita (Stephen) Dickison of South Shore; a son, Kirby (Victoria) Major, of South Shore; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma (Robert) Johnson of Wheelersburg, Ohio; and a brother, Robert (Wanda) Wells of Dayton, Ohio. Funeral services will be at noon Friday, Jan. 18 at First Christian Church in South Shore by Bill Hayden. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery in South Shore. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 17, at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore and after 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church in South Shore. |
