Capt. [Harold Dan "Danny" Sheets], a river pilot, died Saturday, July 2, 2004, at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans. Capt. Sheets was born in Illinois. As the child of a member of the U.S. Air Force, Danny traveled all over the world. Capt. Sheets graduated from Broadmoor High School, where he proudly played drums in the Broadmoor Marching Band. Capt. Sheets attended LSU, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He was a helicopter medic in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Capt. Sheets was NOBRA 33 of the New Orleans Baton Rouge Steamship Pilots Association. He resided in the Baton Rouge area his adult life. Prior to his membership in the NOBRA Steamship Pilots Association, Danny was a captain for Bisso Towboat Co. and co- owner of Superior Appliance Parts in Baton Rouge. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, July 5, 2004. Religious service at the funeral home at noon Tuesday, July 6, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Leslie Hidalgo Sheets; father and stepmother, Wilman Sheets and Marge Sheets; a daughter, Courtney Elaine Sheets; a son, Harold Dan Sheets; a sister, Sue Doran; three brothers, Ronnie Sheets, Kim Sheets and Glenn Sheets; a grandchild, Gabrielle Sheets; and future daughter- in-law, Angela Wolfe. He was preceded in death by his mother, Molly Sheets; and mother-in-law, Betty Breen Hidalgo. Pallbearers will be Paul Hidalgo, Billy Lahners, Michael Hidalgo, Steve Bayliss, Keith Schuster, Bill Hidalgo and Brian Bayliss. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Lahners and Chris Woosley |
