Trixie Marie Bernard Born: Aug. 11, 1951 Died: Feb. 26, 2013 Trixie Marie Bernard, Rahma, passed away peacefully after a long battle with brain cancer on February 26, 2013. Born on August 11, 1951 in Lafayette, LA, Trixie was the daughter of Eva and Ison Fontenot. She attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic High School in Lafayette, LA; The Academy of Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, LA; and Lafayette High School. She enrolled at Louisiana State University to pursue a degree in Elementary Education, and eventually completed training in respiratory therapy. While at LSU, she met her husband Doug Bernard. They were married in Laredo, TX on May, 19th, 1973. After the birth of their two daughters, Bridget and Stephanie, she worked with her parents in their business, Maison de Hallmark, in Lafayette, LA. Later, she became a certified massage therapist, and owned her own practice for 8 years in Austin, TX. Trixie is survived by her husband, Doug; her daughters Bridget Adams and Stephanie Bernard; two granddaughters, Remy and Jolie Adams; her son-in-law, Brain Adams; her parents, Eva and Ison Fontenot; siblings and their families, Nancy Coleman, Mark Fontenot, and Ann Getz; and uncle and aunt, Davis and Sue Fontenot. She is preceded in death by her grandparents; Lizzo and Tanzy Fontenot of Louisiana and Meta and Fritz Bandscher of Germany. Through her own spiritual search, Trixie found peace and love through the Sufi path. Shortly after she attended a workshop on Sufism with some friends, she invited the Sufi Shaykh, Sidi Muhammad to Austin to share the Sufi teachings. As much as she was a teacher to many, she was equally a student for all. With Trixie's unending spiritual commitment, Austin gained a most loving, caring and giving community as well as a true beloved. Her enlightenment and spiritual enthusiasm touched the community and brought healing to all that knew her. Trixie was very close to her family and treated friends as family. She was the first to show up when you needed help or asked. Trixie was an amazing wife, mother and friend. She may not have always known the answer, but would seemingly find the answer and the best 'guru' to any topic. Trixie is well loved by her family, friends and community and will be dearly missed. Funeral services will be held at Austin-Peel and Son on Saturday, March 2nd from 10am - Noon. We invite people to share their stories and prayers at this service. This will be a closed casket service but opening the casket for those who need it will be determined at the time of the service. Burial services will be held directly after at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery, which will be lead by a police escort. |
