About | The community has lost one of its well known contributors in the person of Ethel Mae Patty Dorsey. In The year of 1922 Mae was born to Morris and Bertha Poullard. She shared family life with Grace, Grady, Wallace, Gertrude and James, her siblings. During her youth she became a member of the Morning Star Baptist Church of Crowley, LA. Following her relocation to Lafayette in her adult life and marriage to Doremeus Dorsey, she united with Trinity Methodist Church. There she participated in the choir and Mission ministry. Mae's educational foundation was completed in Crowley. Her final educational training was completed at Southern University and the University of Southwest Louisiana where she earned a masters degree in English Education. Within the academic arena she will be remembered by her colleagues as a tough teacher, Mae Dorsey, who prepared wonderful meals and then invited them all over to enjoy. As a teacher she was known by the many students that she taught as a firm and serious instructor who prepared students to perform at the college level if they so desired. Socially she enjoyed affiliations with Ester Chapter No. 187 Order of the Eastern Star and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Auntie, as addressed by her nieces and nephews, enjoyed a fun filled life on her agenda for years were scrabble, bingo and the casino. Preceding Ethel in death are her parents, all siblings, Bill Patty and Doremeus Dorsey (previous husbands), three nephews and one niece. The fondest of memories will remain with her six nieces, 11 nephews, their children and all whose lives she shared. Evelyn (Bobbie) and Gwen offer thanks to all for the spiritual, physical and emotional assistance rendered during auntie's journey home.
