About | GARLAND - Allan Robert Thomas, 66, died unexpectedly March 13, 2013, at his home. He was born March 22, 1946, in Garland, a son of Robert and Eleanor (Grinnell) Thomas. He graduated from University of Maine, Orono, with a degree in computer science. Allan served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War era. He retired from the town of Veazie as code enforcement officer and tax assessor. Allan was a member of the local school board; Dexter Grange; Boy Scout Troop No. 51, Dexter; The Maine Highlands Sled Dog Club and Downeast Sled Dog Club. He was a former chair of Bangor Area Storm Water Group. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elaine; son, Ben and wife, Denise; daughter, Karen Rodgers and husband, Taylor; three brothers, Jim and wife, Sandra Thomas, Fred Thomas and Frank and wife, Anita Thomas; sister, Pat and husband, Bill Harding; and four grandchildren, Marie, Alex, Callista and Fiona. He will also be fondly remembered by Josh and DeAnn, his sled dog team drivers. A celebration of his life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at Garland Grange Hall, where a reception will be after the service.
