He passed away a local hospital, after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. Eugene served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 8th Infantry Regiment 4th Infantry Division and received the Army of Occupation Medal - Germany. He was a part time grocery clerk at A&P grocery store in Houlton and also worked for Birdseye Division, Caribou, and Fitz's Bottling, Houlton. Eugene worked seasonally for the potato harvest as a potato picker, as well as on his family farm. He traveled to Boston and Connecticut to look for work, but eventually returned to Houlton. Eugene was a devout parishioner of St. Mary's of the Visitation Church. He is survived by one sister, Margaret Ochmanski; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Gertrude (Garrity) McMonigle; by four sisters, Mildred, Alice, Anna and Mary; and three brothers, Louis, James and Francis. |
