Ethelyn resided in Kennebunk. She was the beloved Town Clerk in Kennebunk for 21 years, considered by many to be one of the State's finest Town Clerks. Ethelyn received a proclamation of thanks from the State Legislature. Ethelyn was married to Robert L. Marthia and together they had two children, Robert Howard Marthia and Joanna Mae Moran. She had three grandchildren. Because of support from the citizens of Kennebunk, a special leave request was granted to her son Robert to leave his deployment in Afghanistan and come home to spend time with her prior to her death. The Town of Kennebunk dedicated a park to Ethelyn located at Narragansett Point at Kennebunk Beach where she spent many hours enjoying the beach. Jeff Tarbox, Ethelyn's pastor said her life was one of "uncommon significance." She enjoyed knitting, sewing, playing her piano, fishing with her husband and social times with her friends. She also enjoyed the many mission trips she went on. Ethelyn began her commitment to service in high school where she was active in softball, basketball, varsity club, band, glee club, a Western Maine Concert Delegate, class committees, Rambler, senior play and as Chaplain of Tri Hi Y. |
