About | OBITUARY Terry Lee Horning MAY 28, 1952 – JUNE 2, 2022 Obituary of Terry Lee Horning IN THE CARE OF Fort Lincoln Funeral Home & Cemetery Terry Lee Horning, 70, of Cheverly, Maryland, passed on June 2, 2022. He was a loving father, husband, coach, firefighter and friend. Terry was born in Hawaii on May 28, 1952, to Lee and Shirley Horning. He lived in upstate New York for a short time before moving to Cheverly, Maryland, a town that he loved dearly and called home for the rest of his life. Terry began his fire service career as a volunteer at Tuxedo-Cheverly Volunteer Fire Company 22. He was hired as a career firefighter with the PGFD in 1973 and retired in 1995. Terry had many assignments at some of the busiest companies in the county, including Stations 1, 8, 9, 22, 33, 42, and the Special Tactical Unit. He earned many commendations and decorations for excellence and valor. He retired at the rank of Fire Captain serving as Executive Assistant to the Deputy Fire Chief for Emergency Operations Command, Alan Hamilton. In 1974 Terry married his favorite person, Sue, who survives him along with their three daughters, Kelly Meyers (Chris), Becky Taylor (Drew), and Rita Rahl (Bobby), six grandchildren, Joshua and Jackson Meyers, Maggie and Wyatt Taylor, and Braden and RaeAnne Rahl, his brother, Rick Smedley, his sister, Holly Johnson, his aunt, Sue Myers, and several nieces and nephews. Terry spent much of his life coaching sports, mainly softball, with the Cheverly Boys and Girls Club, St. Vincent Pallotti High School, the Southern Maryland Dynasty, and the F5 Tornadoes. For the last 15 years he coached with his daughter, Rita, at Elizabeth Seton High School. Terry had a profound and lasting impact on his daughters, his grandchildren, and the athletes he coached throughout his life. He will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service for Terry will be held on Wednesday, June 8th, at 12:30 PM at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Cheverly, Maryland. A reception will follow at the Cheverly American Legion Post 108 from 2:00PM-7:30PM. All are welcome to join his family for the service, the celebration of his life, or both.
