About RACHAEL ALEXANDRA SHEELEY
April 4, 1991 --- July 24, 2009
It's not the birth date or the
passing date on your headstone
that matters.....
It's the dash in between.

Rachael A. Sheeley was born April 4, 1991 in Laurel, MD to Sharon Sheeley and Michael Campbell. She attended Montpellier & Deerfield Run Elementary Schools, Northern Middle and High School. She graduated "With Honor" in June, 2009.
She started playing sports at a very early age, beginning with soccer. As she got older, she ran track, played volleyball, basketball, and sometimes coached soccer.
Music was an integral part of who she was. She loved music of every kind and played the Violin exceptionally well for several years.
She was an avid movie goer, and especially liked horror flicks. Some of her favorite television shows were CSI, House, Psych, Monk and The first 48.
Rachael liked having a job as it allowed her to meet many people. She started working at Arby's in the 9th grade . During her brief time here she also worked at Nationwide Insurance Co., Wayson's Corner Bingo, and her favorite, Ledo's Pizza in Dunkirk. Her goal was to become a police officer and crime scene investigator.
She loved many outdoor activities including boating, fishing, swimming, gardening and spending as much time as she could at the beach with family and friends.
She was blessed with a large family on both her mother and fathers' side, and was constantly recognized by all as a wonderful daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, and cousin.
One of Rachael's great qualities was her caring nature. She wore her heart on her sleeve and would do anything for anybody, no matter your station in life. Whether you were her best friend or a homeless person, she always had room in her heart for you.
Rachael loved animals of every kind. Her favorite animals were cows. She personally enjoyed the company of several dogs, cats, hamsters, and rabbits. She had several "odd" pets including chinchillas, spiders, and even an iguana.
Although she was outgoing and generally happy, she would express her anger if she saw an injustice being done to anyone, including herself. It didn't matter if she knew you or not, she stood up for what she believed in. Once she said her peace, she would leave you with a kind word and a smile.
Rachael was taken from us in a tragic accident that will live forever in the hearts and minds of many.
Although she is gone, her legacy will live on in several ways:
Calvert County Sheriffs Office has made many changes in regard to the manner in which they approach emergency calls. Her accident is being used as a training tool for all new recruits.
Southern Maryland newspapers acknowledged her in their "Year in Review" as one of the most historically tragic events.
There is a star named Rachael Alexandra Campbell (she changed this from Sheeley shortly before she was killed) in the Orion constellation.
Route 4 at Apple Way was adopted by her Mom, Sharon and will be tended by her family and friends. In addition, a Facebook page was created for "Rachael"s Road Crew".
She is part of the Maryland Victims "A Light Still Shines" legacy.
Calvert Soccer Association is awarding scholarships in her name.
As a tribute to a much loved, stellar human being, several people have paid tribute by tattooing music notes, angels, bracelets and even her name, on themselves.
Although many are broken hearted, they will remember the love she shared unconditionally and without limits, the happiness that seemed to follow her, no matter what hardships she faced, and most of all, the heart hanging on her sleeve and the helping hand that was always extended for those in need.

She will be greatly missed. Rest in peace our angel
