About Gary Burriss: From Emily Burriss Knight (daughter) posted on FaceBook Nov. 6, 2020
At 11:43 pm November 5, 2020 my dad took his last breath with all of us around him. Although he never made it home officially from the hospital, he went to the ultimate Home as we stood beside him. Days leading up to his final moments we got glimpses of our dad. Although he could not speak, his eyes smiled and wept as we Face Timed his grandkids knowing it would be the last time. His love for his kids, his wife and his grandkids were what kept him fighting till the very end. He was a flawed man, not perfect but perfect for us. He was the most hard-working talented person I’ve ever met in my life and who I would always run to for any decision in my life. The past few months he was diagnosed were a roller coaster. I saw a man that was unwilling to accept defeat until the last minute. His strength this whole time is what kept us strong. It’s been a long slow goodbye and I have moments, voicemails and photos to replay over and over again. Grief is coming in waves, but I feel at peace. He is Home with the Lord and I believe he will continue to guide me every day. Thank you for all that have prayed and reached out to me and my family. I have great peace in my heart, and I know God is good.
Events Gary B. Burriss of Warwick, NY passed away peacefully at Westchester Medical Center on November 5, 2020. He was 69 years old. Born on May 26, 1951, in Bethesda, MD, he was the son of Carl and Shirley Burriss. To sum up Gary’s life and the impact of his love in one statement is impossible. He was larger than life and so full of humor, energy, and wit. Hilarious, hardworking, and an incredibly talented craftsman, Gary loved his hometown of Warwick; eating Maryland blue crabs; and listening to country music. He was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back before you realized you even needed it. Gary’s love for his family, friends, and friends who became family just poured out of him. He adored his five beautiful grandchildren. You could see it every time they were together, and it was pure joy watching him get to know each one of them. Gary is already missed by his wife, his loving children, neighbors, and everyone whose life was touched by his generosity and kindness. Gary will be sorely missed, but never forgotten by those who survive him: his wife, Tracey (Greene) Burriss of Warwick, NY; daughter, Emily Knight and her husband Brett of Montgomery, NY, daughter, Cassie Phillips and her husband Kevin of Bel Air, MD, son, Zachary Burriss and his wife Allison of Forest Hill, MD and stepson Jesse Douglas and his fiancée, Alex Kanter of New York, NY; sister, Susan Burriss of Tampa, FL; and five grandchildren: Sara, Hayley, Brody, Emi and Makenzie. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to The Brain Research Foundation, 111 West Washington Street, Suite 1460 Chicago, Illinois 60602 or online at the brf.org
