ALAISA, Maria Fides Lapena, age 57, passed away peacefully at home in Tampa on July 13, 2014 after a long and brave battle with colon cancer. Maria's beautiful, radiant, joyful soul was universally loved and will be profoundly missed. Maria was born Jan. 30, 1957 in Manila, Philippines, to Cornelio Alaisa and Milagros Lapena Alaisa. She immigrated to the U.S. with her family and lived in Edgewater, MD, becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1972. She graduated from the University of Maryland and received an MBA from American University. After a career in banking, she became a National Bank Examiner with the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in 1993, serving in Washington D.C., New Mexico, California, and then Tampa. Maria is survived by her husband, Steven Dudley of Tampa; brothers, Rene (Isabella) Alaisa of Tampa and Chuck (Bernadette) Alaisa of Chantilly, VA; and eight nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church on Aug. 2, followed by a Celebration of Life ceremony.
