Moulden, Roger Elmer Obituary (1957 - 2022)

Graduation Year Class of 1975
Date of Birth Jun 13, 1957
Date of Passing Dec 13, 2022
About Roger Elmer Moulden was born to Richard and Louise Moulden on June 13, 1957. He was the third of their four children. As a musical child, Roger took an early interest in singing, which he would later pass on to his children.

Roger attended Southern Senior High School. Being quite the charmer, Roger was a delight to friends and faculty alike, which earned him the title of Senior Class President 1975. Following high school, Roger further nurtured his love of music by studying music education and performance at Bowie State University. A true vocalist, Roger used his voice to bring comfort, joy and peace to thousands throughout the years. Roger then went on to study nursing at the Martha Washington Career Center where he earned an associates degree. Roger was a dedicated nurse in the Washington Metropolitan Area for over 40 years. Later in his career, he took his nursing skills and trademark charm to work as a marketing and clinical liaison for major rehabilitation facilities throughout the Metropolitan Area.

While working as a nurse at the Healthcare Institute in Southeast DC, Roger met his future wife, Deborah. In true Roger fashion, someone had to tell him she was flirting with him. Eventually, they went on their first date to see the movie The Color Purple. He soon began courting her and her daughter, Colette, who would also tag along on dates. In 1987, Roger and Deborah were married. They welcomed two sons, Roger and Brandon. Together they raised these three children.

Throughout his life Roger had many titles, but the ones he valued the most were Son, Brother, Friend, Uncle, Husband, Father, and most importantly, Grandfather (aka Granddude). One of his greatest joys was that he was able to be present for the birth of his grandson, Cairo. Once Cairo was born, nothing else mattered. Roger was often caught spoiling his grandson, much like own father spoiled Colette, Roger and Brandon.

Roger was charming, compassionate, kind, loyal and funny. His laughter and light will be missed. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Gardner-Moulden; his children, Colette, Roger and Brandon; daughter-in-law, Joycelyn Hughes-Moulden; grandson, Cairo E. D. Moulden; son-in-law, Seth Miller; his siblings, Carolyn Anderson, Sandra James, Richard Moulden, Jr., and Sarah Moulden-Sims; and a host of nieces and nephews.
