Thompson, Wayne Nelson Obituary (1958 - 2020)

Graduation Year Class of 1976
Date of Birth Jul 22, 1958
Date of Passing Oct 28, 2020
About Wayne Nelson Thompson Sr., also known as “Winky,” "Wang-Tang,” “Tang-Tang,” and “Baby,” age 62, of Churchton, Maryland, peacefully transitioned from this earthly home to his eternal resting place early in the morning on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at John and Arloine Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House, Harwood, Maryland.

Wayne's life journey began on July 22, 1958 at the Anne Arundel General Hospital, Annapolis, Maryland. His parents are the late Catherine Blunt Thompson and Preston “Bee” Thompson. His biological mother is Emma Pack and step-father, Morris Pack (deceased). He adopted Jean G. Johnson as another mother and called her “Mom Johnson.”

Wayne was educated in the Anne Arundel County Public Schools and graduated from Southern High School in 1976. Wayne has two children, Wayne Nelson Thompson Jr. of Annapolis, Maryland and Monica Sarah Moss of Daytona Beach, Florida. Monica has two children, Carter Dylan Hadley and Caiden Noah Hadley. Wayne loved his family very much. He tried his best to show them how much he cared.

Wayne joined the United States Army in 1976 and served until 1989. While enlisted, he held positions of Administrative Specialist, Bachelor Officer Quarters (BOQ) Supervisor, Cavalry Scout, Cash Office Representative, and Headquarters Installation Spt Act. He received a Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Army Commendation Medal. His rank at discharge was SP4 and he received an honorable discharge.

Wayne’s work history consisted of towing dispatch supervisor and carpenter, but by far his heart and soul was at his last job where he was employed by Deale Hardware from 2009 until his passing. He loved his job and was a hardworking, dedicated employee. He eventually became one of the managers and was on call 24/7. Whenever there was a problem, someone called him, and he would help by phone or go down to the store. Whenever senior citizens came into the store, Wayne was the first one to greet and assist them. If he was not in the store, people would say they will come back when he was there because he knew where everything was in the store and memorized the order parts numbers. His passion in the store was the Stihl products. He was an expert in this area and loved every minute of it. The owner, Jim Weaver, was very compassionate towards Wayne when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. He even allowed him to work when he felt up to it, instead of laying him off. He was very supportive which says a lot about his character.

Wayne was always excited about donating prizes to the church. He never said no when asked to support an event by donating supplies, equipment or whatever he could. He always liked to help anybody whenever he could. He never wanted to be paid for what he did for others. It was done out of the goodness of his heart. He loved to keep the lawns cut. He’d cut the grass in 100 degree temperature, sweating bullets. He also liked to watch Westerns, vampire movies, science fiction, and flip back and forth to watch every sport possible, which drove me crazy.

Wayne leaves to cherish his memory his significant other/partner, of 11 ½ years, Jean Yvonne Johnson; one son, Wayne Nelson Thompson Jr.; one daughter, Monica Sarah Moss; two grandchildren, Carter Dylan Hadley and Caiden Noah Hadley; five brothers, Theodore “Butch” Gray (Tonya), Kelvin “Stinky” Makell (Gwenda), Terry “Pup-Pup” Makell, Dale “Daley” Smothers, Steve “Stevie” Smothers (Lynn); one sister, Sheila Farmer (Marvin); people he held close to his heart were Jean G. Johnson, Clarence E. Johnson Jr., Alea Hudson, Carol Holland, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. One of his best friends was Earl Jackson (deceased).
