About | Alan E. Grimes, 57, of Frederick, died Friday, March 7, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington. He was the husband of Jan A. Barber. Born March 21, 1945, in Frederick, he was a son of Agnes Shank Grimes of Walkersville, and the late James C. Grimes. Mr. Grimes was a produce manager with Safeway Supermarkets for 37 years in the Frederick County area. He was actively involved in a variety of youth athletics including girls and boys softball, Little League, swimming and equestrian events. Mr. Grimes was a hunting and fishing enthusiast, and enjoyed following the Baltimore Ravens, Maryland Terrapins and Washington Redskins. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are four children, Shannon L. Groomes and husband Douglas of Keedysville, and Ryan S. Grimes, Erin E. Riley and husband Hunter D. II, and Megan A. Grimes, all of Frederick; one brother, James F. Grimes of Walkersville; one aunt, Frances E. Bealle of Braddock Heights; one uncle, Wayne Shank and wife Pat of Damascus; and a niece, Holly Fouche and husband Ed of Mount Pleasant. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. The Rev. Tim May of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services.
