| About | Alva Ray Dinterman, Jr. of Walkersville, MD died Friday, December 20th, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at his residence, in the arms of his beloved wife and loving companion of 60 wonderful years, Clara May Fisher Dinterman. Born April 3rd, 1939 in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late Alva Ray Dinterman and Edith June Staley of Walkersville, MD, and is survived by his loving sister, Charlotte Shaffer (the late Joseph) of Hagerstown, MD, and very caring brother, Timothy (Jan) of Walkersville. Ray was a loving and caring family man and friend, father to Michael Ray Dinterman (Lois) of NC, and Candace L. Smith (Tim) of MD; grandfather to four special Smith children, Dylan, Kylie, Kiera (Aaron), and Ramil (Niema), and great grandfather to Rayden Mojico Smith. Ray always looked forward to seeing and hearing from his children and grands. He is also sorely missed by his little buddy, a Yorkie "Cody Bear," aka "Killer." The family's pets were very special to Ray. He was a member of the All Saints' Episcopal Church in Frederick and served on Care Team #4 (remembering Ray's baked treats). He loved his church and helped serve in many ways (gathering greens, making icing, etc.). Ray graduated Walkersville High School in 1957 and enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard, (honorably discharged February 28, 1965). Following his training at Vale Technical Institute, PA, Ray worked primarily in Washington D.C. and Tyson's Corner, VA 36 years in the automotive industry; was a member of the Cadillac Craftsman's League and ASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) many years, and received numerous "Certificates in Evidence of Competence in Auto Body Repair." Ray has enjoyed cars all his adult life and was a member of the local Francis Scott Key Antique Car Club, Inc. and the Antique Automobile Club of America. He enjoyed music, dancing (how he met Clara), making music with his Fender, Hawaiian (double-necked) steel guitar and playing in a dance band in the late 50's and 60's. He loved family reunions and family gatherings, High School Class Reunions and many such gatherings with friends and family. In later years, he especially loved playing golf with his buddies here and Lakeland, Florida where Ray and Clara spent their Winters. An avid sports fan, he loved fishing especially with his son, he watched many golf tournaments, baseball games (Yankees fan from his youth) and lots of football (Redskins fan). In addition to his loving family, Ray will be missed by many special friends and friends of his children and their children's friends, and his church family. God's blessings and peace to all. A Celebration of Ray's Life service will be held on Saturday, January 4th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 106 W. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Saints' Episcopal Church for new pew cushions in his memory or to the James M. Stockman Cancer Institute, Frederick, MD.
