| About | Amon Edgar "Ed" Esworthy “Ed’s Dead.” If it was up to Ed, that’s all that would be written here. However, those of us left behind think he deserves a little bit more. Amon Edgar “Ed” Esworthy Jr passed peacefully from this life on August 21, 2026 at his home in Walkersville, Maryland (MD). He was born in Frederick, MD on March 28, 1948; son of the late Amon Edgar and Ruth Ellen (Long) Esworthy. He grew up on a dairy farm in Walkersville and graduated from Walkersville High School in 1966. Ed served in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam years, from 1967 to 1972; he was a proud veteran and loved his country. Ed owned and operated Esworthy Painting, “The Master Painters”, for over 50 years, employing and managing painters with a focus on residential homes in Frederick County. He was a member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren. Ed was an honorary life member of the Woodsboro American Legion Post 282, his “home on the hill,” where he was Post Commander (twice), and a longtime volunteer. He also volunteered with youth outdoor skills at Camp WestMar and as a young man was a member of the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company. Ed was a life member of the Frederick County Fish and Game Protective Association (Camp Kanawa), where he enjoyed steak nights with the “Woodsboro Mafia” (Steve Blank, Tommy Plunkard, Lew Trott, Bo Haslup, and Johno). Ed helped his son Eddy install multiple TargetWorx indoor shooting ranges, and was a lifelong firearms enthusiast and marksman. He loved the Black Hills of South Dakota and owned property outside of Hot Springs for years. Ed enjoyed spending time with his ranch friends at N&S Farms, from chopping corn in the fall to the cattle branding in the spring. Ed loved spending time outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman, from pursuing deer and bear in Maine, hunting camp on Linganore Road in Maryland, hogs in South Carolina and Texas with the “Maryland Maniacs,” rockfish and catfish at Point Lookout with “brother” Dan Logsdon and family/friends (Team Jerk and Snatch), to his true passion: pheasant hunting in South Dakota at the Horseshoe K Ranch. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially telling jokes (it’s all in the delivery, as his lifelong buddy Ron Dorsey would say), and entertaining family and friends on the back porch. Ed loved seafood (particularly “family crabs” from Trout’s Supreme Seafood), and helped prepare many crab and oyster feeds at the American Legion, Camp Kanawa, and for family and friends. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Peggy Murray Esworthy; children, Eddy (Merry) Esworthy, Tripp (Amy) Macdonald, Sara (Robert) Saliby, and “third son” John (Coleen) Trainor; cherished grandchildren, Cordelia, Maretta, and Eleanor Macdonald; sibling, Mary (Denny) Derry, and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, and sister Evon “Bonnie” (Alan) Heflin. The family will receive friends from 4-7pm on August 27, 2026, at Stauffer Funeral Home (1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD). A memorial service and Celebration of Life, officiated by Pastor Dahl Drenning, will be held September 12, 2026 at the Woodsboro American Legion (101 West Elizabeth Street, Woodsboro, MD) from 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Legion, Post 282 or Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (PO Box 50, Memphis TN 38101-9929). |
