About Daniel Lee Flohr, 57, of Union Bridge, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a 10-month illness. Born Aug. 10, 1953, in Frederick, he was the son of Marie Wolfe Flohr, near Mount Pleasant, and the late Edgar Flohr. He was the husband of Shirley Robinson Flohr, his wife of 22 years. He was a 1971 graduate of Walkersville High School and attended Salisbury State College. He was of the Methodist faith and was a self-employed master carpenter. He was a patriot and an honorary life member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 282 of Woodsboro, where he dedicated much of his time. In his younger years he was a talented athlete, particularly in soccer and baseball. He was an avid Ravens fan, enjoyed playing golf and was a former champion of the Schwan Open. He enjoyed spending time with his pets Nick, Reggie, Chloe and Maggie. He was cared for by the 4th Floor, G Wing staff at Frederick Memorial Hospital in his final days. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter Jennifer Shafer and companion Mark Wachter, of Johnsville; grandchildren Deverule and Ashley Shafer; sisters Helen Kennedy and husband Bill, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Rochelle Hopkinson and husband Terry, of Sharpsburg, and Connie Flohr and companion Melanie Holt, near Mount Pleasant; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, where the American Legion will conduct a memorial service at 7:45 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Glen W. Eyler American Legion Post, 101 W. Elizabeth St., Woodsboro, with the Rev. Ernest Thayil, pastor of Johnsville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Union Chapel Cemetery, near Libertytown.
