About | David Mark Garst, of Keymar, died peacefully November 15, 2013, at Frederick Memorial Hospital under the care of Hospice, after a year-long battle with brain cancer. He was 59. Dave was born May 4, 1954 to Florence R. (Roderuck) and C. Richard Garst. Dave graduated from Walkersville High School in 1972. He was happily employed for 28 years at Dutch's Daughter. When not working Dave enjoyed playing golf, was a huge fan of Western movies, and loved to garden. In addition to his parents, Dave is survived by brothers Dick and his wife Barb, Mike and his wife Susie, and Dana and his wife Vanessa; and their children, Rick, Angie (Jerico), Drew (Carrie), Meredith (Elliot), Todd (Heather), and Tara, as well as several great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by his beloved Maria Solano, as well as all of his friends at Dutch's Daughter. Dave felt fortunate to be "Dad" for a portion of his life to Leona, Bunny Eli, Billy and Andy, as well as "Grand dad" to Brandy, Daniel and Brian, and "Great-Grand dad" to Austin and Jared. He spent the final four months of his life at Golden Living Center, enjoying every activity offered, and especially loved playing cards with Mother Hen, Doris Hayes. Thank you to the staff at the Center for making Dave feel cared for, loved, and safe. Dave was preceeded in death by his brother, Randy; grandparents; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Wakersville, on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Glade United Church of Christ, 21 Fulton Ave., Walkersville, on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. Rev. Philip Curran will officiate. Interment will follow at Glade Cemetery.
