| About | George Clayton Stauffer, 96, of Walkersville, Maryland, passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at his home. Born on November 1, 1915, in Walkersville, he was the son of the late Frank Nevin and Ethel Mae (Zimmerman) Stauffer. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Pauline Mae (Etzler) Stauffer, as well as his second wife Marie (Hahn) Stauffer. George was a devoted member of Calvary United MethodistChurchin Frederick, where he was known for his many volunteer activities. He was a member of the Gospel Choir, as well as a member and past president of the Leader's Bible Class. He also served as a Stephen Minister, and was active for three years with Student Discipleship Ministries. As a young man, George was active as a 4-H member. He was on the Maryland State 4-H winning dairy judging team in 1935 and in 1936. George was selected to represent Maryland at the National 4-H Convention in 1935 and he was also a member of the Maryland 4-H All Stars. He was a member of the 1932 Maryland State FFA win- ning dairy judging team that also won the Northeastern Regional Title. George was a 1932 graduate of Walkersville High School and an active attendee at the annual Walkersville High School Alumni dinner. George was active in dairy farming from 1940 until 1967. The Stauffer Family received the Master Farmer Family award in 1958, and was awarded the Green Pastures Farm of Maryland in the 1950's. He was a breeder of Registered Holsteins Dairy Cattle at the family "Gladevale Farm." In 1967, he discontinued farming and became active in real estate. He owned and operated George Stauffer Realty with his daughter, Sharon. From 1973 through 1990, George received numerous real estate awards, including The Round Table Club Award in 1990 and many Gold Club Awards. He was in partnership for 30 years with Bob Waltz and the late Ernie Ausherman, operating as Frederick County Developers. They developed numerous communities in Frederick County. He was also in partnership with Raymond Houck and they developed the Rosewood Condominiums in Woodsboro. George was a member and past president of the Glade Valley Lions Club, where he was a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was also a member of the Glade Valley Grange, the FrederickCountyFarm Bureau, the Maryland S.A.R.C., the Frederick County Realtor Association, a Life Member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #684 in Frederick, and he was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Columbia Masonic Lodge #58, A.F. & A.M. In recent years, George was active with the Walkersville Senior Citizens, where he enjoyed his many friendships and playing cards with his fellow senior citizens. He served as Director of the Community Foundation of Frederick County, where he sponsored a Scholarship in memory of hiswife, Pauline Stauffer, and also for the 4-H Club of Frederick County. He had also served as a Past Director with Goodwill Industries. George was a member of the Frederick Memorial Hospital Good Samaritansand received the "Good Samaritan of the Year" award in 2007. In 2005, he received the Frederick County 4-H Camp Center Leadership Hall of Fame Award. George will be remembered by his family and friends as a true gentleman with a generous heart and kind spirit; always offering a loving guiding hand. George is survived by his son, Doug Stauffer and his significant other, Judy Cochran of Walkersville; his daughter Sharon Barrick and her significant other, James VanKeuren of Walkersville; and six grandchildren: Sandra Silvious and husband David of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Troy Barrick and his special friend Jennifer Mullendorn, of Hagerstown; Jason Barrick and wife Michelle of Unionville; George Stauffer, II and wife Courtney of Jefferson; Susanne McCracken and husband Lee of Kingston, Tennessee; and Chad Barrick and wife Sherry of Walkersville. George enjoyed spending time with his eleven great-grandchildren, Mason and Makenzie Barrick, Brady and Tyler Barrick, Clay Stauffer, Tanner Summers and Karsyn Barrick, Ben and Cooper McCracken, and Luke and Lauren Silvious. He is also survived by his special friend, Dorothy Misner of Frederick. George loved his family and enjoyed the many times that they had together at family gatherings. George was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Stauffer Iager; infant sister, Margaret Stauffer; and son-in-law, Claude "Sonny" Barrick. The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Saturday, September, 29 from 7-9 P.M. and on Sunday, September 30 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. A funeral ceremony celebrating George's life journey will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 1 at 11 A.M. with The Rev. Harry C. Cole and The Rev. Tim May officiat- ing. He will be laid to rest immediately following the ceremony at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
