Mr. George Marshall Wachter, 59, of Hanover, Pa., died Monday, April 6, 2009 at Hanover General Hospital, after an extended illness. Born Oct. 30, 1949 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Thomas Marshall and Mary Evelyn Buffington Wachter. He was the husband of Debbie Kline Wachter, his wife of 38 years. Mr. Wachter was a 1967 graduate of Walkersville High School and a member of Mt. Zion Haugh’s Lutheran Church. He was self-employed as a dairy farmer and retired from the Frederick County Highway Department after 19 years of employment. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, crossword puzzles and antiquing and was an avid gardener. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter, Maresa Wachter of Annapolis; two sons, T. Michael Wachter of New Oxford, Pa. and T. Mathew Wachter and wife, Gabe of Hanover; three grandchildren, Kasandra and Madelyn Wachter, and Silas M. Wachter; two sisters, Miriam L. Devilbiss of near New Windsor, Dean W. Kolb of Austin, TX; two nieces; and two nephews. He will be remembered by former daughter-in-law, Lydia Elsner of Littlestown. A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 11 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge with Rev. Michael Adams, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, Upperco, officiating.
