About Hazel LaRue Fogle Ott, 90, passed away peacefully at Savannah Cove of Maitland, FL on September 30, 2022. She was the wife of the late Jerome B. Ott, who preceded her in death in 2000. Born on August 1, 1932, in Frederick, MD, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Fogle and Bertha (Rice) Fogle.

She was a 1950 graduate of Walkersville (MD) High School and 1954 graduate of Duke University, Durham, NC.

After graduating from Duke, Mrs. Ott began her professional career at a radio station in Philadelphia, leaving the workforce upon the birth of her daughter, Kimberly. She resumed her career at Lord & Taylor in Philadelphia following her separation from her first husband in 1965, then worked as an aide and librarian at an elementary school in Abingdon, PA, before moving to the Washington, DC area in 1970. She held positions at four companies in the DC area before relocating to Florida in 1981 with her second husband. She closed out her professional career at Jacobson's Department Stores in Florida where she was employed from 1982-1990.

Mrs. Ott was a member of Winter Park Presbyterian Church in Winter Park, FL. In 1987 she established the LaRue F. Ott Endowment Fund at Trinity College of Arts & Sciences at Duke University. She enjoyed traveling with her husband until his passing and enjoyed spending time visiting and sightseeing with her family until her death.

LaRue is survived by her daughter, Kimberly S. Keller, granddaughter Tiena Ellis (Derek); and stepsons Kevin (Ruth) Ott and James Ott. She is also survived by a niece, Joy Perry and nephews Jack, David and Ernie Fisher. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by husband John V. Smith; sisters Ernestine Fogle and Donna Fisher, and an infant brother; and stepsons Thomas and Robert Ott. The family would also like to thank Frank Lovre and Jeanine Chmela for their friendship and assistance with LaRue.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 3, at 11 am at the Woodsboro Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Dahl Drenning officiating. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
