About | James Carroll Smith, 65, of Rt. 4, Box 99, Pine Swamp Road, Keyser, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Monday, December 22, 2003 at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, MD. Born on October 16, 1938 at Frederick, MD, he was a son of James Conklin Spurrier of Frederick, MD and Ethel Virginia Carden of the Trinity Care Center in San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by a son, John Michael “Mike” Perea. Mr. Smith owned and operated the H & R Block Tax Service in Keyser for 39 years and traveled as a district manager for H & R Block for several years. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Keyser, and served as treasurer of the Trinity-Mt. Calvary Shared Ministry. He was a 1956 graduate of Walkersville, MD High School and a 1959 graduate of the Chicago Technical College with a degree in architectural design. He was also a graduate of Bell Saw Institute in the art of lock-smithing. For many years, he served as the treasurer for the Helping Hands Ministry as well as being an active supporter of the Faith-in-Action, which was located in his building. He was also a former member of the Walkersville, MD Fire Department and the Keyser Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving, in addition to his parents, is his wife of 27 years, Margaret Ann (Braithwaite) Smith; one daughter, Maria Christina “Crissy” Mayhew and husband Jason Wayne Mayhew of New Creek, WV; one sister, Patricia Fortune of Tustin, CA and five loving grandchildren, Ashley Renee Mayhew, who is her pappy’s angel, Cody Allen Perea and Lindsay Makayla Perea, both of Fountain, WV and Jesse Dewayne Perea and Rachael Nicole Perea, both of Ridgeley, WV. Friends were received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Tuesday, December 23 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral services were conducted at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church on Wednesday, December 24 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Sally L. Bartling officiating. The body was taken to the church one hour prior to the service. Interment was in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser. |
