About Joan Keefer Cox a resident of Keymar, Maryland died on Wednesday, December 21, 2022. Joan was born in Frederick on December 5, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Truman Franklin Keefer and Mary Mehring Keefer. Joan attended Frederick County Public Schools and was a graduate of Walkersville High School, Class of 1953. She attended Gettysburg College and graduated from James Madison University, Class of 1957. She completed her master's degree at Shippensburg University.

A lifelong educator, Joan taught in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Winchester and Alexandria, Virginia before returning to Frederick County. She worked the remainder of her career as a Reading Specialist and retired after 36 years of dedicated service to Frederick County Public Schools. Joan was a member of Zonta Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Frederick County Teacher's Association, and the National Teacher's Association. She was a lifetime member of Mt. Zion (Haugh's) Lutheran Church.

Joan's interests included collecting and selling antiques. She acquired an extensive collection of pattern glass, goblets, and early coverlets. She owned Looking Glass Antiques in Keymar and was also employed at Diane's Hallmark in Taneytown, Maryland. She traveled extensively. Joan was fortunate to have a traveling companion and dear friend, Lorraine Disque (deceased) accompany her on trips across the world.

Joan will be best remembered for her love of friends and especially family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and took great joy in watching her grandchildren grow. She is survived by her son V. Brian and wife, Susan of Keymar and her five grandchildren, Emily, and fiance Brandon Goss, Matthew, Andrew, Grant, and wife Jordan, and Natalie Norris and husband Aaron. She was predeceased by her brother Truman Frederick Keefer, and son, Truman Randall Cox.

The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro on Tuesday, December 27 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 28 at 11 a.m. Pastor Darrell Davis will officiate. Interment will follow in Haugh's Cemetery, Ladiesburg.
