| About | John Thomas Gilbert Mr. John Thomas Gilbert, 77, of Walkersville, died Friday, Oct. 27, at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick. He was the husband of Josephine Cramer Gilbert. They recently had celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Born December 14, 1922, near Walkersville, he was a son of the late John E. and Amy Filler Gilbert. He graduated from Walkersville High School in 1941. Mr. Gilbert worked on his family's farm prior to working at Aunt Lucy's Hams in Walkersville. He later worked as a meat cutter at Carmack's Meat Department in Frederick, and retired from Trout's Market in Woodsboro. He enjoyed bus trips, his grandchildren and the registered beef cattle on his daughter's farm. Mr. Gilbert was a member of Glade United Church of Christ where he had served on the consistory and other church committees. He was a member of the Walkersville Volunteer Rescue Co. and a life member of the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Co. 11. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, J. Thomas Gilbert Jr. and wife Eleaner, and Richard W. Gilbert and wife Debra, all of Walkersville; one daughter, Susie Snyder and husband Daniel of Fairfield, Pa.; six grandchildren, Erin, Jack, Richie and Amy Gilbert, and Brandy and Seth Snyder; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by one brother, Alton L. Gilbert. Funeral services were held Oct. 31, at Glade United Church of Christ at 21 Fulton Ave. in Walkersville. Mr. Gilbert's pastor, the Rev. Dr. Gerald C. Hanberry, officiated. Interment was in Union Chapel Cemetery in Libertytown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Glade UCC Improvement Fund, 21 Fulton Ave., Walkersville, MD 21793; Walkersville Volunteer Fire Co., 79 W.
