| About | Melvin Eugene Filler age 84, died Sunday, August 7, 2016. He was born January 23, 1932 in Walkersville, MD the son of the late Harry T. and Eleanor Z. Filler. He is survived by his wife, Esther. They were married June 5, 1954. Melvin graduated from Walkersville High School (Class of 1950) and joined the United States Air Force immediately upon graduation. He spent most of his Air Force career in England as an Air Policeman. After discharge from the Air Force he went to work at Fort Detrick and was later transferred to Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland retiring after 35 years of civilian service. Surviving in addition to his wife is a nephew, Charles Covell of Walkersville. Also surviving are one sister-in-law and one brother-in-law, plus their families all of Maine. Many cousins also survive. The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from 12-1PM where a memorial service will begin at 1PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 14 West Pennsylvania Ave., Walkersville, MD 21793 or Walkersville Volunteer Rescue Company #24, 73 Frederick St., Walkersville, MD 21793 Interment will be private.
