About | Mr. Phillip Richard Heflin, 65, of Woodsboro passed away on June 5, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a bravely fought eight month battle with cancer. He was the husband of Kenda S. Heflin. Born on October 17, 1947 in Olney, MD, Phil was the son of Margaret D. Heflin and the late Edgar W. Heflin of Woodsboro. Phil was part owner of Heflin Bros. Inc. in Woodsboro. In addition to his career in farming, he was employed as a tractor trailer driver by Oak Bluff Farms, D.M. Bowman Inc., Darling & Daughters and most recently, the Great White Wood Company. He was known as Farmer by his trucking buddies. Phil was a member of the Central Maryland Antique Tractor Club and the Maryland International Harvester Collectors Club Chapter 39. Phil enjoyed participating in antique tractor pulls. He was a lifetime member of the Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Company. In addition to his wife and mother, Phil is survived by his sons Jeremy Heflin of Walkersville and Drew Heflin and wife, Karolina, of New York, NY and his daughter, Kate Boram and husband, Connor, of Philadelphia, PA. He is also survived by brothers, Alan Heflin and wife, Bonnie, of Woodsboro and Jack Heflin of Woodsboro and sisters, Peggy Elgin of Rocky Ridge, Joan Lapera and husband, Marty, of Walkersville and Juanita Pfister and husband, Greg, of Keymar and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jim Elgin, and sister-in-law, Anna Heflin. Phil was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend whose jovial nature and gift of conversation was adored by everyone he knew. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone whenever needed. Phil will be greatly missed by his family and many, many friends. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of the Frederick Memorial Hospital Regional Cancer Center and the doctors and staff of Unit 2C at Frederick Memorial Hospital for their excellent care and compassion. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD, on Sunday, June 9, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm, where services will be held on Monday, June 10, at 10:00am with Rev. C. Dahl Drenning officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Route 15.
