| About | In addition to his wife, Ralph is survived by two daughters: Donna L. Mason and husband Evan, and Marilyn M. Ivascu; 5 grandchildren: Lauralee, Kelly and M. Seth Mason, Ralph and Ronnie Ivascu; one sister-in-law Doris Smith, close cousin Betty Ifert, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Born January 16, 1923 in Walkersville, MD., he was the son of the late John Milton and Avie C. Staley Smith. Ralph was the last of his immediate family and was preceded in death by his 5 sisters: Helen Clem, Mary Flanagan, Amy, Grace and Ada Frances Smith; and 6 brothers: John H., Paul, Albert, Ray, Ira and L. Staley Smith. Ralph was a 1940 graduate of Walkersville High School and retired from the NIH in 1987. He was a reputable gentleman with solid work ethics. A trip to Israel in 1980 was a highlight of his life. Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Hodges Funeral Home and interment will follow at Lee Memorial Park in Fort Myers, FL.
