| About | Richard Eugene "Yogi” Bare, 76, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Sterling Care South Mountain in Boonsboro, MD. Born on April 3, 1947, in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late Alton M. Bare and Florence Louise (Hamerick) Bare. He graduated from Walkersville High School, class of 1965. Worked at Claire Frock in Thurmont for 19 years, and was a lifetime member of the Lewistown Fire Department for 51 years. Richard was well known as “Yogi” Bare. He was raised in Mountaindale where he lived for many years. Locals knew Yogi for his joking comments such as “I have seen better legs on a pool table” and others too naughty to list. He also loved to joke around with his nieces, nephews, and friends and always with a kind heart to make everyone laugh! Yogi would also be remembered for walking the streets of Mountaindale, Frederick and Thurmont. He had a monitor on his hip and one at home, he knew every fire call that went out. He would reminisce about riding on the back of the fire truck for Lewistown in all the parades. He was also an avid Ravens fan. He is survived by his sister, Yvonne Willis, brother, Robert and spouse Cathy Bare, and sister-in-law Doris Bare, along with many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to include special niece Sandy Willis, and special nephews Danny and Brandon (BJ) Bare. The family would also like to thank a special lifetime friend, Butch Remsburg, for always being there for Yogi!. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 104 E. Main Street, in Thurmont, MD. A celebration of Richard's life journey will take place at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the funeral home. Reverend Tim May will be officiating.
