About Mr. W. Gary Brown, 50, of Frederick, died suddenly Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.

He was the husband of Mary Jane McWilliams Brown.

Born Aug. 18, 1948, in Frederick, he was a son of Hubert R. and Mary F. (Brown) Brown Sr. of Lewistown.

Mr. Brown was an active member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Buckeystown, where he was head of the maintenance committee, building committee and the parish council.

He headed and worked on numerous projects for the church and with his gift in woodworking created many items such as the church altar and the baptismal font.

He was also a member of the church's softball team.

He was employed in the housing industry and for the past several years was project manager with Windsong Homes of Warrenton, Va.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are one son, Daniel R. Brown, at home; two stepchildren, Kristen M. and David J. Smith, both at home; three brothers, Hubert R. Brown Jr. and wife Janet of Frederick, Kenneth L. Brown and wife Joan of Gettysburg, Pa., and Ronney W. Brown and wife Kelli of Grantville, Pa.; two sisters, Mary J. Miller and husband Edward of Whiteville, N.C., and Dorothy G. Hinson and husband Edward of Charlotte, N.C.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

A memorial mass will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at St. Joseph's on Carrollton Manor, 5843 Manor Woods Road, Buckeystown, Md. 21717-0033.
