About Mr. Wayne Byron "Buddy" Crum, 92, of Frederick, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday, May 14, 2017 with his Son, Daughter-in-Law and Grandchildren by his side. He was the husband of Charlotte Geraldine (Austin) Crum whom he married on Feb. 16, 1946 in Taneytown, MD. In Feb. of 2017 this year, they celebrated 71 yrs. of marriage.

Born January 23, 1925, in Woodsboro, MD, he was the son of the late Roger W. and Neva (Pauline) Crum. He was raised by his grandparents, the late Pete and Minnie P. Donsife.

In addition to his wife, Wayne is survived by his son Brian "Todd" Crum and wife Donna, of Frederick; grandchildren, Bradley Crum and Emily Lopez (Jason Miller), both of Frederick; a great-granddaughter, Naomi P. Miller, of Frederick; a sister, Helen Hubbard of Hagerstown, MD; a brother-in-law Melvin Austin of Westminster, MD; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Austin of Westminster, MD, Betty Austin of Taneytown, MD, and Marty Austin of Emmitsburg, MD and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger F. "Toots" Crum and Charles Henry "Biddy Boy" Crum; two sisters, Nancy J. Kritsings and Patricia S. "Patty Sue" Mantell, and a special aunt, Jane R. Crum.

Wayne graduated from Walkersville High School in1942, where he played soccer, basketball and baseball. He played semi-pro baseball for many years in Frederick and Carroll counties, and was considered a pro prospect at one time, as a pitcher. During World War II, he served with the Maryland Minute Men to warn the citizens of his community in case of attack. Asthma prevented Wayne from being accepted in the military. He, along with his wife, were avid duckpin bowlers, bowling in Taneytown, Westminster, Union Bridge, Walkersville, Baltimore and Frederick. In his younger years, Wayne enjoyed trips to Gettysburg and Williamsburg, as well as, spending time with family and friends. In his later years he enjoyed oyster dinners at New Midway Fire Dept. and Walkersville Fire Dept., attending his grandson's baseball games at National Little League, MARVA Babe Ruth League, Thomas Johnson High School, Frederick American Legion and Mid Maryland Select Travel League. He also enjoyed watching his granddaughter play basketball, and bowl duckpins. Wayne was the manager of the VFW Babe Ruth baseball team in the Frederick 16-18 Babe Ruth League for many years. He was also a member of the Frederick County Slow Pitch Softball Umpires Association. Wayne was a store manager for both the Food Fair and Pantry Pride food chains, and a member of Local Retailers Union 367. Wayne retired from the grocery business in 1981.

Mr. Crum ran on the Republican ticket for Frederick City Alderman in 1973. He won the primary election, however, he was defeated in the general election that year.

Wayne was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where he served on the church counsel for many years. He loved his Baltimore Orioles and was an avid Miami Dolphins fan after the Colts left Baltimore. He enjoyed watching and listening to the games on television.

Wayne's greatest qualities were his honesty, his integrity, his love for his family and friends, his sense of humor, and his love of God and country.

Wayne will be dearly missed by special friends, Danny Miller, Mike Edwards, Dickie Main, Bob Thompson, David Molesworth, and Betty Fox Eyler. Also, all the boys at Shrivers Meats, that he would call every week and make their day.

Honorary Pallbearers are grandson, Bradley Crum; nephews, Gary Crum, Donald Crum, Craig Austin, Nevin Topper, Kevin Topper, Donnie Paugh and Gordon Jenkins. Friends, Danny Miller, Mike Edwards, Dickie Main, Bob Thompson, Gary Specht, Calvin Cannon, and Kevin Brennan.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9pm, on Monday, May 22, 2017 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD, 21701. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on, Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1415 W. Seventh Street, Frederick, MD, 21702. Reverend Ronald Reaves will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at the above address.
