About | Bowdoin Barnes, 67 Date: May 14, 1991 Telegram & Gazette Worcester, MA Page: A9 Obituary SUTTON Bowdoin Barnes, 67, of Route 220, Knox, Maine, formerly of Boston Road, died Sunday in his home after a short illness. His son died in infancy. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of Reon and Laura (Bowdoin) Barnes, and lived 30 years in Sutton before moving to Maine in 1980. He graduated from Bourne High School in 1940 and Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine, in 1945. While at college, he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Mr. Barnes taught mathematics for several years at Kents Hill School in Maine, Nantucket High School, and Randolph High School in Vermont. He was then an actuarial associate at State Mutual Life Assurance Co. of America in Worcester, where he worked for more than 25 years. He retired in 1980. After that, he was a cost analyst for several years at Hodges Trucking Co. in Unity, Maine. Mr. Barnes was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Wilkinsonville, the State Mutual Fellowship Club and the State Mutual 25 Year Club. He was an amateur radio operator, with the call number K1-NMH. Funeral services were held from the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, Route 139 at Depot Street, Unity, Maine. The Rev. Truman Fudge officiated. After cremation, burial was Friday in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middletown, CT. family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made instead to the Waterville Area Humane Society, Drummond Avenue, Waterville, Maine 04901, or the Loyalty Fund of Kents Hill School, Kents Hill, Maine, 04349.
