About | SouthCoast Today March 23, 2010 Retired Superior Court Justice Chris Byron died unexpectedly in Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston on March 9. He was 82. Byron attended Bourne High School for three years and enrolled in Norwich University where he completed his high school senior year as well his first year of college. He was a 1948 honor graduate of Norwich University. He was one of five children of James and Evelyn Byron. Raised in Buzzards Bay, he learned the family seafood and restaurant business. As a Korean War veteran, he served with distinction in the Army from 1948 to 1952. Upon discharge from the Army, Judge Byron enrolled in the Boston University School of Law graduating in 1955. He served as law clerk to Raymond Wilkins, Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Court. He practiced law and was a senior partner in the law firm of Abramson, Titus, Byron and Putnam in New Bedford, and in 1974, was appointed a district court judge. He was later appointed an appeals court justice and, in 1979, an associate justice of the superior court, where he served until 1993. As a retired Judge, Byron served as court-appointed arbitrator, mediator, trustee and special master. Burial was in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. |
