About | Cape Cod Times December 5, 2006 Rev. Edwin A. Trench, Jr., 78, of Sagamore Beach, died November 29, 2006 after a long illness. A graduate of Bourne High School, Rev. Trench was born and raised in Buzzards Bay. He served two tours in the Navy, first on the cruiser USS Manchester and then at the Naval War College in Newport, RI. He worked in the Buzzards Bay family business, Trench Cleaners, for 17 years. In the early 1960s, he was called to the ministry in the United Methodist Church. Beginning in 1965, he served parishes in Rhode Island, northeastern Connecticut and eastern Massachusetts, often as a co-pastor with his wife. After their retirement, they returned to their family homestead in Sagamore Beach. His hobbies included boating, especially in Cape Cod waters, and carpentry. He combined these skills in building several boats using the St. Pierre dory as a frequent model. He also answered countless requests from friends and family for custom carpentry items for adults, children, and dolls. A memorial service was held on December 10 at 3:00 PM at the Swift Memorial United Methodist Church (10 Williston Road at Old Plymouth Road, Sagamore Beach). Rev. William Trench will officiate. A reception immediately followed in the church's Gibbs Hall. Interment was private. |
