Eleanor (Stahura) LaMarre, October 25, 2001

Eleanor (Stahura) LaMarre earned a bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Massachusetts University after leaving Bates.

Her father, Walter Stahura ’28, received a Distinguished Service citation from the College in 1965.

Eleanor L. Lamarre, 58, Apartment Manager; sang with several choral groups

Eleanor L. (Stahura) Lamarre, 58, a former Buzzards Bay resident, died at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford on Thursday after a brief illness.

Mrs. Lamarre was born in Wareham and was a 1960 graduate of Bourne High School.

In 1970 she earned a degree in history with highest honors at SMTI, now the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth.

While in high school she excelled in academics and athletics. She was a member of the National Honor Society lettered in basketball.

In 1959 she was named Miss Cranberry Highway.

Mrs. Lamarre had been an active member of the St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Buzzards Bay where she sang in the choir. She also sang with several choral organizations and at times was featured as a soloist.

In New Bedford for the past 20 years, she was resident manager of the Roosevelt Apartments on County Street where she was an avid duplicate bridge player.

Mrs. Lamarre is survived by her mother Helen (Rychcik) Stahura of Buzzards Bay, a daughter Christine Vannet of New Bedford, a brother, Walter J. Stahura Jr. of Buzzards Bay a granddaughter and grandson and two nephews.

A funeral was at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County Street in New Bedford.

Burial followed in the Oakland Grove Cemetery in Bourne.
