About | Frederick J. Dunbury, Sr., 78, of Cataumet died Friday, July 20, 2007 surrounded by his family. He was born in Medford where he attended Medford Public schools. In 1946, he moved to Cape Cod later graduating with the Bourne High School class of 1947. Upon his graduation from Bourne High School, Mr. Dunbury enlisted in the Marine Corps where he served for three years. During his service in the Korean War, he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star with Combat V. Following his military service he entered Boston University, graduating in 1958. At B.U., he was a member of the track and cross country teams. In his summers off from college, he played Cape Cod League Baseball for the team that is now known as the Bourne Braves. Later Mr. Dunbury continued his education at Bridgewater State College and Boston University receiving his M.Ed and C.A.G.S. degrees. For 37 years Mr. Dunbury was a teacher, coach and administrator in the Bourne School System. He was best known for his compassion and kindness toward all of the young people whose lives he touched. Visiting hours were held at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne on Thurs., July 26 from 2-8 pm. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, 341 Shore Rd., Pocasset on Fri., July 27 at 10:30 am. The church service was followed by a military tribute held at the Frederick J. Dunbury, Jr. Memorial on the grounds of the Bourne Middle School. Burial was private. |
