About | Gertrude (Haskell) Anderson February 4, 1911 - April 16, 2011 Biography Gertrude (Haskell) Anderson, 100, daughter of the late Archibald and Laura (Smith) Haskell passed away peacefully at Cape Heritage in Sandwich, MA on April 16, 2011. She was the beloved wife of the late Onnie W. Anderson and mother of 9 children. Gertrude was born and raised in the quaint village of Bournedale that she loved. She attended the one room schoolhouse there with her future husband Onnie. She saw many changes in her lifetime, including the digging of the canal and building of the local bridges. She often spoke of the beautiful homes, elms, and landscape before the canal was made. She also liked to tell about swimming across the canal, although it was a river then, and later taking the ferry across to Bourne Grammar and Bourne High School. She loved her family, sewing, wildlife and gardening. Her door was always open for friends and family to stop by for tea or coffee. There was always cocoa and graham crackers for the grandchildren and friends. The children will always remember her kindness, the big box of crayons, coloring books and paper. Halloween will never go by without thinking of “grammie” with her individual bags of popcorn, lollypops and few candies to take home, plus the huge pot of popcorn for everyone else to share while they visited. She has left her family love in our hearts and memories to last us a lifetime. She was predeceased by her daughter Betty F. Duarte, brothers Robert Haskell and Kenneth Haskell. A funeral service was held Wednesday April 20, 2011 at 11 AM at the Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd. Bourne. In lieu of flowers donations in her name can be made to the Heritage Sunshine Fund, 37 RT 6A, Sandwich or Hospice of Cape Cod, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601 |
