About | Henry F. Maiolini of Buzzards Bay died Friday, August 15, 2008 at the age of 86 Born in Sagamore to the late John and Adele (Delco) Maiolini, he attended local schools and graduated from Bourne High School in 1940 where he was a member of the varsity football and basketball teams. He later attended Northeastern University, majoring in Criminal Justice. Mr. Maiolini enlisted in the US Marine Corps. in 1942 and saw service in the South Pacific on the USS Bunker Hill. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Corporal. Upon his discharge, he applied for a slot on the Los Angeles Police Department. He passed the exam and was accepted, but circumstances brought him back to Cape Cod. He joined the Bourne Police Dept. as a part time patrolman in April 1951, receiving his permanent appointment in Feb. 1952 and then attaining the position of Sergeant in 1958. He was promoted to Chief in 1962 where he served until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Maiolini was appointed Chairman of the State Criminal Justice Training Council by then Gov. Michael S. Dukakis. In 1975 he was elected president of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police. He also served as Chairman of the Executive Board of the Mass. Police Institute, was elected President of the Southeastern Mass. Police Chiefs and served as secretary and treasurer for 20 years. Active in Scouting since 1934, he remained active as a scoutmaster and committee member. He helped found the Sagamore Civic Booster Association, whose purpose was to build a civic building for the use of Scout Troop 48. In 1955 he drove Troop 48 from Cape Cod to New Mexico on a four week camping trip. An avid Red Sox fan, he joked about living long enough to see them win the World Series. He was the former husband of Florence (Forlivesi) Maiolini of Sagamore and the late Medio Maiolini and his wife, Muffy of Sagamore. Visiting hours were held from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 in the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd. in Bourne. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 am on Thursday, August 21 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church, 141 Main Street, Buzzards Bay. Burial followed in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Gifts in his memory may be made to the Bourne High School Scholarship Fund, P.O.
