About | Howard F. Gregory Friday, October 9, 2015 Howard F. Gregory, 88, of East Falmouth died September 20 after a brief illness. He was a former English teacher for Bourne Public Schools. He was the husband of Carol J. (Jones) Gregory, who died in 2011. A native of Springfield, Vermont, during World War II he served in the US Army as a paratrooper. He graduated from the University of Vermont in 1950 with a bachelor of science degree in commerce and economics. After graduation, he was a coordinator in the production department at Raytheon Corporation in Waltham. In 1953, he returned to Vermont to work for National Survey, a map-making company. He was in charge of the photo-edit division and updated charts and made transliterations for maps of Russian and German bases. He came to Falmouth in 1961 to be a draftsman in the graphic arts department of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. In 1963 he started teaching in the Bourne School District. He received a master’s degree in education from Bridgewater State College in 1972 and a master’s in English in 1974. Mr. Gregory taught English at Bourne High School and was the head of the English department. He retired in 1989. After retirement, he worked as a substitute teacher at Falmouth Academy and Bourne High School. Mr. Gregory wrote short stories, poetry, plays, and a spy novel. He was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Falmouth. A memorial service w?as held on ? Friday, October 23 at 2 PM at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Burial w?as? in the Memorial Garden of St. Barnabas. |
