About | Margaret K. (Boffetti) Tonello November 11, 2016 Margaret K. (Boffetti) Tonello, 91, of Sagamore Beach died November 2. She was the wife of Mario Tonello, to whom she was married for 65 years. They met when she was 16 and were married 10 years later. The daughter of John and Rose (Rigazio) Boffetti, she was born in New Bedford and raised in Sagamore; in the 1930s when she was a girl attending Sagamore Grammar School, there was still a drawbridge over the Cape Cod Canal that students crossed on their walk to school. After she graduated from Bourne High School in a class with 36 boys and10 girls, she went on to Bridgewater State College to study education. After college, she taught in Wareham for a year, then came to Bourne to teach 3rd grade. She left to raise her two sons and after they were in college, she returned as a reading specialist, teaching at all grade levels. She retired from the Bourne Public Schools in 1995. She also worked for many years on her family-owned chicken farm, Hillcrest Farms. She was the sister of the late Stella M. Aittaniemi. Visiting hours were Sunday, November 13, from 1 to 3 PM at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich, followed by a 3 o’clock service. Burial was at the St. Peter Cemetery in Sandwich. |
