About | BUZZARDS BAY - Ruth Amelia (Dainty) Kiniry, 86, a resident of Buzzards Bay, died October 15, 2000 of Alzheimer's disease Sunday at Summerville at Potomac in Potomac, Md. Born in Monument Beach, Mrs. Kiniry was a graduate of Bourne High School in 1930 and went on to Boston University where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1934. Mrs. Kiniry began her long career as an English teacher in 1935 at Stoughton High School. She taught at Lexington High School from 1937 until 1946. In 1946 she returned to teach at Bourne High School where she stayed until her retirement in 1975. In 1946, she married Ralph W. Kiniry. They divorced in 1958. For several years Mrs. Kiniry directed Bourne High School's senior class play, and for many years she served as head of the English Department. She received a master's degree in education from Bridgewater State Teachers College in 1959. She was a well respected teacher who took pride in the accomplishments of her students, many of whom remained in touch with her over the years. Upon her retirement, Mrs. Kiniry traveled to England, Hawaii, the Azores and the Caribbean. Long after her retirement, she remained a regular at Old Silver Beach and was a determined, much-recognized walker along the Cape Cod Canal. She was also a loyal Boston Celtics fan. Visiting hours were held at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd. (Route 28), Bourne. Burial was private in the Monument Beach Cemetery. |
