About | Shirley Ann (Barbeau) Stanley, 84, of Williston passed away June 14, 2014. Shirley was born in Wareham, Mass. in 1929 and grew up in Bourne, MA where she attended Bourne High School. She was married to Henry Stanley of Wareham, MA where they raised five children. Shirley was an active member of the PTA, a Cub Scout leader, started the Coffee and Donuts Bowling League in Buzzards Bay with her mother Dorothy Barbeau, volunteered at the Bourne Episcopal Church Thrift Center and was an active member of the Wareham Pocahontas. She relocated to Florida in the 1970s to be near her mother and other family members. While living in Bronson, she became an active volunteer in several community organizations including the Share Program and the Bronson Women Homemakers with who she volunteered to read to elementary school children about the dangers of drugs. She was also a member of the Society of Workers in Early Arts and Trades where she demonstrated the art of pine needle basket making and volunteered at the Keyhole Center for the Arts in Cedar Key. In addition to helping out wherever she could, she enjoyed reading, quilt making, bingo and computer games. She loved animals and enjoyed her cats, dogs and birds. In her later years, she was fortunate to have a constant a loving companion and compassionate caregiver with her sister, Rita, to whom she was forever grateful. Shirley is survived the late George Stanley of Stillwater, N.Y. Shirley will be remembered as a kind and loving mother and friend with a constant smile, a great sense of humor and someone who was lots of fun. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19 in the chapel of Knauff Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Deborah Harrison will officiated. |
