About | Susan Carol (Quimby) Jewett Simpson 1936 - 2015 WINTHROP Susan Carol (Quimby) Jewett Simpson, 79, died on October 18, 2015 at her home on Lake Maranacook in Winthrop with her loving family by her side. Susan was born in Boston, MA on August 30, 1936, the daughter of David English Quimby and Emily (Mason) Quimby. She grew up on Cape Cod, graduating from Bourne High School in 1954. She attended the Eastern Maine General School of Nursing in Bangor. She married Lloyd Jay Jewett, Sr. in 1955. They moved to the Augusta area in 1965 when Lloyd became provost and then president of the University of Maine at Augusta. Sue and Lloyd had 21 wonderful years of marriage until his untimely death in 1976. Sue married Philip Alden Simpson in 1983. They spent 31 years enjoying life together, dividing their time between Lake Maranacook, Sugarloaf, and until recent years, the winter months in Ft. Myers and Kissimmee, FL. Sue will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who lived life with grace. She adored her cats, including Buzz, June, and the most recent addition to the household, Charlie. She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed alpine and cross-country skiing. She loved to walk and kayak, and spend time outside with her grandchildren. She looked forward to her regular bridge games with her friends. She enjoyed traveling, and had particular fondness for Bermuda, Captiva Island, and Hawaii. Trips to Spain and France were also highlights of travels with her family. Throughout her life, Sue was drawn to spending time on the ocean, including many favorite places on the Maine coast and Cape Cod. Sue was an avid reader and loved doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. A favorite evening pastime was watching old movies or British television shows, particularly Doc Martin. Sue was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 50 years and a long-time member of the Augusta Country Club and the Kennebec Valley Country Club. She was predeceased by her parents and by her husbands Lloyd and Philip. At Sue's request, family and friends were invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, October 24, 2015, from 1-3 p.m. at the Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
