About William F. Sampson Sr. ''Bill'', of South Sandwich, 80, died November 5, 2005 at the Mary McCarthy Hospice House in East Sandwich after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Sagamore, MA, he was the son of the late Alonzo and Helen Sampson of Bourne.

Mr. Sampson attended Bourne schools and then after served in the US Navy on the battleship ''US. Wyoming'' during WWII as second class petty officer. After WWII, he worked at Camp Edwards Fire Department as Crew Chief GS-5 and at Otis Air Base as a crash rescue firefighter. He then retired after 25 years.

Mr. Sampson was also an Ocean Spray Cranberry Grower and member for 40 years and an investor.

He enjoyed gardening, traveling, family friends, his cats Snuggles and Snowball and was a Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.

Mr. Sampson was the brother of the late Clifford Sampson of Vermont, the late George Sampson of Bourne and his late sisters Helen Bassett of Bourne, Esther Wixon of Sagamore and Sadie Horte of Plymouth.

Memorial Services were held on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marstons Mills Community Church, 2135 Main Street, Marstons Mills, MA
